The basis of our bodywork.
We apply pressure, lift and stretch tissue, rock the body, stroke the skin, entrain the rhythms, move the
joints, generate tissue repair by creating therapeutic inflammation, stimulate reflex responses, soothe the
energy field, and provide professional support, compassion and acceptance for the client. Regardless of
the application of structured touch, generally healthy people can benefit from the normalizing physiologic
effects of bodywork. Therapeutic massage is a complete system serving the wholeness of an individual
through a direct influence on the body and respect for mind and spirit. The purpose of manipulative
therapy is to work with a person's natural healing force to correct any internal malfunctioning particular to
that person. At Emma's our bodywork is more significant than just pokes and rubs, it is to effect lasting
changes, not merely addressing muscle tissue. With our tactile stimulation we reach deep within the mind,
body, and soul from the surface of the skin to the subconscious responses of the lower brain. With this,
bodywork is profoundly therapeutic.
Our therapists continue to study in considerable depth the varied systems to stimulate blood circulation
and nerve interactions directly or indirectly so that each session is designed specifically for the individual
client.
What type of bodywork should you choose?
Swedish Massage - a relaxing massage using gently flowing strokes around the body. It will soothe tight
and aching muscles and promote basic circulation of body fluids.
Pregnancy and Prenatal Massage - a restful and helpful massage to relieve discomfort in the low back,
legs, and feet and increase circulation for you and the baby.
Infant Massage - a gently, soothing and caring touch to relax the newborn and support proper breathing
and digestion. It may help relieve colic, sleep problems, general crying and weeping. Oh so soothing with
our gentle baby essential oil.
Massage for People with Cancer - this specialized and skillful touch is designed to support the cancer
patient physically, as well as, metaphorically to bridge the perceived sense of seperation from sickness to
wellness. It can reduce pain and discomfort, increase immune function, bring about a state of relaxation
and re-establish a sense of physical pleasure.
Shiatsu - is a Japanese form of bodywork that promotes the body's natural healing abilities by using
acupressure on energy pathways in the body. It is administered on the floor with stretching and hand
pressure to restore harmony.
Neuro-Muscular and Myofascial Pain Therapy - This method of bodywork is designed to address
triggerpoints and pain associated with muscles that are weak, restricted, taut and tender. This specialized
work takes a very skillful hand to disrupt the triggerpoint, reset the muscle and re-educate the postural
imbalances to relieve the perpetuating factors. A short or long term comprehensive treatment plan may be
recommended for complete recovery.
